Abu al- ‘Abbas Ibn ‘Uqdah, al-hafidh al-Shi’i, related it from al-Hasan b. ‘Ali b. ’Affan al-‘Amiri, ‘Ubaydullah b. Musa, Fitr, ‘Amr b. Murrah, Sa’id b. Wahab and Zayd b. Yuthay’, as follows: We heard ‘Ali in al-Ruhba saying something similar (to the above); thirteen men stood up and bore witness that the Messenger of Allah said ‘To whoever I am his master, ‘Ali is a master. O’ Allah, befriend the one who befriends him and be at enmity with one who is at enmity with him; love those who love him and hate those who hate him; defend those who defend him and forsake those who forsake him’. After finishing narrating this hadith Abu Ishaq said: O Abu Bakr (i.e. Fitr b. Khalifa), who were those men?
