Abu Mu’awiyah narrated to us from Musa bin Muslim, who reported form Abd al-Rahman bin Sabit, who in turn reported Sa’d saying: ‘Mu’awiyah arrived [in Mecca] during one of his Pilgrimages. Accordingly, Sa’d [bin Abi Waqqas] came to see him. and they happened to mention Ali. Mu’awiyah thus diminished Ali. As a result, Sa’d got angry and commented: ‘You are speaking of this man! I have heard the Messenger of Allah say that he [Ali] possesses three qualities, if I were to own any one of them, it would be dearer to me than the whole world with all it contains. I have heard the Messenger of Allah announcing: ‘Of whosoever I am the master, then Ali is Master. And I have heard the Prophet saying: ‘You [Ali] are to me in position what Harun was to Musa except that there is no Prophet after me. And [also] I have heard the Messenger of Allah declaring: ‘I am certainly going to hand over the banner to a person who loves Allah and His Messenger".
