According to al-Khudri and Jabir al-'Ansari: When the verse, 'Today I have perfected your religion’, was sent down, the Prophet [s] said: “ Glory Allah for the perfection of the religion, the completion of the favor, His contentment with my mission and for choosing 'Ali ibn Abi Talib as my successor.
