ورواه المسعودي في مروج الذهب ج 2 ص 11 ولفظه : ثم نادى علي رضي الله عنه طلحة حين رجع الزبير يا أبا محمد ما الذي ‏أخرجك؟ قال: ألطلب بدم عثمان. قال علي: قتل الله أولانا بدم عثمان، أما سمعت رسول الله يقول: أللهم وال من والاه، وعاد من ‏عاداه؟ وأنت أول من بايعني ثم نكثت وقد قال الله عزوجل: ومن نكث فإنما ينكث على نفسه. فقال: أستغفر الله، ثم رجع.‏
