وعنه - قال: بينما علي جالس، إذ جاء رجل فدخل [و] عليه أثر السفر، فقال: السلام عليك يا مولاي. قال: من هذا؟ قال: أبوأيوب ‏الانصاري. فقال علي: أفرجوا له ففرجوا، فقال أبوأيوب: سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: من كنت مولاه فعلي مولاه. ‏خرجه البغوي في معجمه.‏
