(5647) Al-Walid and Abu Bakr b. Quraysh informed me that Al-Hasan b. Sufyan narrated to us that Muhammad b. `Abdah narrated to us that al-Hasan b. al-Husayn[1] narrated to us that Rifa`ah b. Iyas al-Dabbi narrated to us from his father, from his grandfather who said:
We were with `Ali on the day of al-Jamal when he sent word to Talha b. `Ubaydallah: Come and meet me!
Talha came to him and he said: "I adjure you by Allah, did you hear the Messenger of Allah say: "Of whomsoever I am master, `Ali is his master. O Allah, befriend the one who befriends him and be at enmity with one who is at enmity with him?"
He said: "Yes." He said: "Then why do you fight against me?"
He said: "I do not remember." He (the narrator) said: Then Talha departed.
