Through a weak chain of transmission, Ibn Mardawayh and Ibn`Asakir quoted Abu Sa`id al-Khudri as saying: “When the Messenger of Allah [s] installed 'Ali as a leader on the day of Ghadir Khumm, Jibril (archangel Gabriel) came down to him with this verse: 'Today I have perfected your religion'.”
