`Alí said to Anas b. Málik and al-Bará’ b. `Ázib: "What prevented you from standing to bear witness for you have heard (it) just as the people have heard (it)?" Then he said: "O Allah, if they have concealed it out of rebelliousness then afflict them."

Al-Bara’ became blind and he would inquire about the way to his house and say: "How can one whom the imprecation has overtaken be guided?"

Anas was afflicted with leprosy on his feet. It is said that when `Alí, peace be upon him, made a call to witness the statement of the Prophet, blessings and salutations of Alláh on him: ‘Of whomsoever I am master, `Alí is his master,’ he (Anas) made the excuse of forgetfulness so he (`Alí) said: "O Alláh if he is lying, then strike him with a whiteness that the turban will not conceal." So he was afflicted with leprosy on his face, and after that he hung a veil over his face.
