Ibráhím b. Ná’ilah al-I#bahání narrated to us that Ismá`íl b. `Amr al-Bajalí related to us that Ya<yá b. Salamah b. Kuhayl narrated to us from his father from Abí `Abdalláh al-Shaybání who said:
I was sitting in the gathering of the Baní al-Arqam when a man from Murád approached slowly on his mount until he stopped at the gathering. He gave greetings, then said: "Is Zayd among the people?"
They said: "Yes, this is Zayd."
He said: "I adjure you by Alláh, there is no god but Him, O Zayd did you hear the Messenger of Alláh, blessings and salutations of Alláh on him, say to `Alí: Of whomsoever I am master, `Alí is his master. O Alláh befriend the one who befriends him and be at enmity with the one who is hostile to him?" He said: "Yes." Then the man departed. (194/5)
