It has been mentioned that `Ali, may Allah honour him, stood up to speak. He praised and extolled Allah, then said: "I adjure by Allah whosoever will be adjured about the day of Ghadir Khumm but that he should stand!"

Not a man stood saying: ‘I was informed’ or ‘It reached me’ except one whose ears had heard and whose heart was aware. Seventeen companions stood up; in one report 30 companions, and in the al-Mu`jam al-Kabir 16, and in a report 12 (companions). He said: "Tell me what you have heard", so they related the hadith and part of it was: "Of whomsoever I am master, `Ali is his master." In one report: "this is his master". From Zayd b. Arqam, may Allah be pleased with him: " I was among those who concealed so Allah took away my sight". `Ali, may Allah honour him, had imprecated those who concealed.
