[Khulasat Tadhhib Tahdhib al-Kamal, al-Khazraji, Safi al-Din Ahmad b. `Abd Allah, Cairo: al-Matba`ah al-Khayriyyah, 1322/1904, p. 140 ] Ibn Ma`in said: He is leader of the pious (imam al-muttaqin). Al-Hakam said: He is the leader of leaders (imam al-a'immah). [Sufyan] al-Thawri said: Shu`bah is the 'amir al-mu'minin' in hadith. [Tadhkirat al-huffaz, al-Dhahabi, Shams al-Din Muhammad b. Ahmad b. `Uthman, Abu `Abd Allah, Haydarabad: Da'irat al-ma`arif al-nizamiyyah, 1333 AH, v. 1, p. 174 ] Ibn Ma`in said: He is leader of the pious (imam al-muttaqin).
