Al-Dhahabí has quoted Abú Dáwúd who said: There was no one whose mistakes were not pointed out except Ibn `Ulayyah and Bishr. Ibn Ma`ín said: He was reliable, pious, and God-fearing. Shu`bah is quoted as saying he was the leader (sayyid) of the traditionists.
