ألحافظ محمد بن أحمد بن محمد بن سهل أبي الفتح إبن أبي الفوارس ( جده سهل يكنى بأبي الفوارس ) ولد 338 وتوفي 412 ، ترجمه ‏الخطيب في تاريخه ج 1 ص 352 وقال : كتب الكثير وجمع ، وكان ذا حفظ ومعرفة وأمانة وثقة مشهورا بالصلاح وكتب الناس عنه ‏بانتخابه على الشيوخ وتخريجه.‏
