[Tadhkirat al-huffaz, al-Dhahabi, Shams al-Din Muhammad b. Ahmad b. `Uthman, Abu `Abd Allah, Haydarabad: Da'irat al-ma`arif al-nizamiyyah, 1333 AH, v. 1, p. 295 ] Al-Dhahabi has quoted Abu Dawud who said: There was no one whose mistakes were not pointed out except Ibn `Ulayyah and Bishr. Ibn Ma`in said: He was reliable, pious, and God-fearing. Shu`bah is quoted as saying he was the leader (sayyid) of the traditionists.
