ألحافظ محمد بن جرير الطبري أبوجعفر صاحب التفسير والتاريخ السايرين المتوفى 310 ، ترجمه الخطيب في تاريخه ج 2 ص 162 - 169 ‏وقال : كان أحد العلماء يحكم بقوله ويرجع إلى رأيه لمعرفته وفضله ، ثم أطراه وأكثر ، وذكره الذهبي في تذكرته ج 1 ص 277 - 283 ‏وأثنى عليه بالامامة والزهد والرفض للدنيا. ‏
