[Biographical Notes in 'Reliance of the Traveller', Noah (Nْ<) \ل Mيm Keller, USA: Sunna Books, 1991 CE, x15 (pp. 1022-3) ] `Abd al-Ra'uf Munawi (p75.0) is Muhammad `Abd al-Ra'uf ibn Taj al-`Arifin ibn `Ali ibn Zayn al-`Abidin al-Munawi, born in 952/1545. A major Shafi`i scholar in the religious and traditional sciences, he lived in Cairo, where he devoted himself to research and writing, producing nearly eighty works, of which perhaps the most signal contribution is his six-volume Fayd al-Qadir sharh al-Jami` al-saghir [The outpouring of the Omnipotent: an exegesis of "The minor compendium"], a commentary on a famous hadith collection by Suyuti. Towards the end of his life, he weakened himself through lack of food and sleep, became ill, and finally had to dictate his works to his son. He died in 1031/1622 (al-A`lam (y136), 6.204; and n). Fa_l Allلh, Cairo (4 vols), 1284 AH, vol. 2, pp. 412-416 (or check index) ] قال المحبي: الامام الكبير، الحجة الثبت القدوة، صاحب التصانيف السائرة، وأجل أهل عصره من غير ارتياب، وكان إماما فاضلا، زاهدا عابدا، قانتا لله خاشعا له، كثير النفع . . فهو أعظم علماء هذا التاريخ آثارا، ومؤلفاته غالبا متداولة، كثيرة النفع . . وكانت ولادته في سنة 952، وتوفي 1031. [al-Ghadيr fي al-kitلb wa'l-sunnah wa'l-adab, al-Amيnي, `Abd al-\usayn A<mad al-Tabrيzي al-Najafي, Beirut: Mu'assasat al-A`lamي (11 vols), 1414 AH/1994 CE, vol. 1, p. 175 ] زين الدين عبد الرؤف بن تاج العارفين بن علي الحدادي المناوي القاهري الشافعي المتوفى 1031 عن 79 عاما ، بسط القول في ترجمته المحبي في خلاصة الاثر ج 2 ص 412 وقال : الامام الكبير الحجة الثبت القدوة صاحب التصانيف السائرة ، أجل أهل مصره من غير إرتياب ، وكان إماما فاضلا زاهدا عابدا قانتا لله خاشعا له كثير النفع ، و كان متقربا بحسن العمل ، مثابرا على التسبيح والاذكار ، صابرا صادقا ، وكان يقتصر يومه وليلته على اكلة واحدة من الطعام ، وقد جمع من العلوم والمعارف على اختلاف أنواعها وتباين أقسامها مالم يجتمع في أحد ممن عاصره ، ثم ذكر مشايخه في الفقه والاصول و التفسير والحديث والادب والطريقة والخلوة وعد تآليفه الكثيرة وأثنى عليها وأكثر.
