أبوعبدالله ياقوت بن عبدالله ألرومي الجنس ، الحموي المولد ، البغدادي الدار المتوفى 626 ، اسر من بلاده صغيرا وإبتاعه بغداد رجل تاجر ، ‏له معجم البلدان ومعجم الادباء ، كانت له أشواط بعيدة في الادب ، وكان متعصبا على أميرالمؤمنين علي عليه السلام . بسط القول في ‏ترجمته محتدا وعلما وأدبا وتأليفا ومذهبا إبن خلكان في تاريخه ج 2 ص 349 - 55 ‏
