[al-Ghadيr fي al-kitلb wa'l-sunnah wa'l-adab, al-Amيnي, `Abd al-\usayn A<mad al-Tabrيzي al-Najafي, Beirut: Mu'assasat al-A`lamي (11 vols), 1414 AH/1994 CE, vol. 1, pp. 163-4 ] ألحافظ شمس الدين أبوبكر محمد بن عبدالله بن أحمد المقدسي الحنبلي المعروف بالصامت المتوفى 789 ، ترجمه الجزري في طبقاته ج 2 ص 174 وقال : إمامنا ومبرزنا الحافظ الكبير شمس الدين . ثم ذكر بعض مشايخ قراءته وتآليفه فأثنى عليه نثرا ونظما ، وترجمه إبن حجر في الدرر ج 3 ص 465 وذكر مشايخه وإجازاته و قال : كان مكثرا شيوخا وسماعا وطلب بنفسه فقرأ الكثير فأجاد وخرج وأفاد ، وكان عالما متفننا متقشفا منقطع القرين وحدث دهرا مات بالصالحية ، وتفقه إلى أن فاق الاقران وأفتى ودرس وكان كثير المروءة.
