 QUESTION:
 
  Selamun'aleykum
  My question is with regards to names given to a child at birth. My aunty is
  almost at full term with 2 weeks before she is due to give birth. A sunni
  sister said that as soon as the baby is born one must recite into the baby's
  ear the "adhan" and say "Your name is Muhammed Thrice" (if it be a boy) and
  if it be a girl - "Your name is Maryam Thrice". After this procedure the
  baby's name is said thrice ie, 'Your name is Fatima' thrice
  etc. 
 
  Q. Is this true if not what is the proper procedure.
  
 
 ANSWER:
 
 Salaam Allah ALaikum;
 
  It is highly mustahab to recite adhan in the right ear and igamat in the
  left ear as soon as the baby is born. It is also mustahab to name the baby
  boy Muhammad for the first week, and Fatima or Mariam if it is a girl. It is
  also mustahab to put the inside portion of a fig (teen) on the babys tongue
  and after one week shave the baby's hair, weigh the hair and give it's weight 
in   
  silver. It is highly mustahab to kill a sheep and distribute it's meat amongst 
the  
  believers..
