QUESTION:

I would like to know what is Islam's view about tubal ligation, which is
sterilization for a women, by blocking her tubes.

I was referred to ask this question to by a muslim friend. I am a college
student studying human sexuality, and I would like to know more on what
Islam says about this


ANSWER:

There is a consensus amongst our mujtahidun (jurists) that only those
types of sterlization are permissible which can be reversed. 

However Ayatull... Sayyid Ali al-Husayni al-Seestani is of the opinion
that if the operation does not entail significant harm or removing/cutting
of bodily parts of the woman then its permissibilty is not unlikely.
