QUESTION:

How do you treat a member of your family who has converted him/herself to a
different religion? What is the Islamic way?


ANSWER:

When a close relative converts to another religion, one should try, as far
as possible to explain to him/her the conseuqeunces of his/her actions. Many 
times they convert as they haven't understood Islam properly or because they 
marry someone outside the din. Sometimes people leave Islam simply because they 
have been infatuated by a charismatic speaker. 

However, you have to bear in mind that despite their conversion, they are
still related to you and you should not cut off relations with them. Rather, 
through continuous preaching and upright conduct, there is always the 
possibility that they might come back to Islam.
