Yes, you are setting yourself up for disappointment. You cannot force yourself onto someone, especially if it seems they are not interested. Your dua to Allah ta'ala should be in asking Him to do what is best for you, and for you to evaluate the situation using reason and common sense.

After fulfilling all the obligatory acts, the best recommended acts are: helping others especially your parents and relatives then poor and needy, reciting Quran with understanding, reciting supplications with understanding, remembering Allah day and night, being in purity state day and night, remembering the Prophet and his holy Progeny with salutations (ALLAHUMMA SALLI 'ALA MUHAMMAD WA AALI MUHAMMAD) , performing Night Prayer every night, reciting Ziyarat Ashura every day, seeking forgiveness (ASTAGHFIRULLAH RABBI WA ATOOBU ELAYH). These are just few examples of recommended acts.

It is permissible and even recommended to supplicate to Allah, The Glorious to protect us from evil people. Regarding making Du'a against others, it is better to pray for forgiveness for you and them and Allah's protection.

All of us need to seek from Allah, The Glorious to Grant us whatever He Know the best for us and never rely on our wishes and thinking and imaginations which are based on our limited knowledge, while Allah (SWT) Knows everything which is good for us. Relying on Allah's order is the best for us.
