Why do Shia Muslims pray on a Turbah specifically from Imam Hussain (as)?

1. It is obligatory to perform our Prayer as the Prophet Muhammad (SAWA) performed Prayer as he has ordered every Muslim (Perform Prayers as you saw me performing Prayers) (.صَلّوا كما رآيتموني أُصَلّي ).

2. The Prophet (SAWA) never performed a Prayer but by putting his forehead on the earth or something from earth except textile or edible and said جُعِلَت ليَ الأرضُ مسجدا وطَهوراً  (Earth was ordained for me a place of prostration and purification (Tayammum).

3. Prostration on carpet is a Bid’ah which never done by the Prophet nor Ahlul Bayt or any pious companion of the Prophet. Leading Sunni Shaikh said that prostrating on carpet (Sajjada ) is a Bid’ah.

4. We don’t prostrate putting our forehead but only on the earth or anything from earth except textile and edible. That is because we obey and follow the Prophet Muhammad (SAWA). This obligatory to keep our Prayer valid by following the order of the Prophet (SAWA).

5. We can put our forehead on any pure clay, though the clay of Karbala has been praised in many authentic Hadeeths being a sacred place, that is why use it as place for prostration as a recommended act.

I currently reside in France, where I feel that Muslims face various restrictions. If I were to relocate to another Western country like England, where religious practices are more freely observed, would it be considered a Hijra?

Hijra is migrating from a place to another place for the sake of preserving your faith and religious practice. Migrating from a place where you can not practice your full religious duties to a place where you can practice your religious duties freely is a type of Hijra for the sake of Allah (SWT).

How can someone respond to Sunni Muslims who question why Shia Muslims refer to their Imams as AS instead of RA, and claim that AS is reserved only for the Prophets, and therefore, it is incorrect to use it for the Imams?

All Muslims used to refer to Imam Ali and Fatima Al-Zahra and Imam Hasan and Imam Husain as AS. You can ask your friend to read Bukhari book where he can find  him referring to Ali as AS عليه السلام. Till today, there are big Sunni scholars refer to Ahlul Bayt as AS.

‘We are the real followers of Quran and the Prophet and find in Quran Salaam on true believers and no one doubts that Ahlul Bayt (AS) are the best believers.
