A Seyyid/Seyyidah can marry a non-Seyyid/Seyyidah. These are only cultural norms, and as long as both sides are Muslim and wajib requirements for marriage are met, the marriage will be valid.

Ziyarat al-Nahiya Al-Muqaddasa is an authentic Ziyarah according to the leading scholars. Shaikh al-Mofeed (died 413 Hijri) narrated it is his book Al-Mazaar. Al-Sayyed Al-Murtadha (died 436) has also narrated it according to Misbah Al-Za'ir) by Ibn Tawoos. Ibn Al-Mashhadi has also narrated it in his famous book Al-Mazaar al-Kabeer. Ibn Tawoos (died 664) also narrated it. Allama Majlisi did narrate it in Biharul Anwaar and Tihfat Al-Zaa'ir. Allama-Muhaddith al-Noori narrated it is Mustadrak Al-Wasaa'il, Shaikh Ebraheem Al-Kashani also in Al-Saheefa al- Mahdiyyah and Ayatullah Borijirdi in Jami' Ahasdeeth Al-Shia.

Our leading Maraaje’ of Taqleed including Ayatullah Khomeini, Ayatullah Khomeini, Ayatullah Sistani, Ayatullah Gulpaygani, Ayatullah Waheed Khurasani, Ayatullah Khamna’ee, Ayatullah Baqir Al-Sadr, aayatullah Fayyadh say that marriage between Sayyed and non Sayyed believers is allowed. Many of Sayyed Maraaje’ have given their Sayyed daughters for marriage with non Sayyed e.g Ayatullah Sayyed Khumeini who gave his daughter to Shaikh Ishraaqi Ayatullah Sayyed Gulpaygani who gave his daughter to Shaikh Saafi and Ayatullah Sayyed Mohsin Al-Hakeemvwho gave his daughter to Shaikh Mohammad Hasan Najaf. These are just few examples of hundreds of leading Sayyed Shia Ulama who gave their daughter for marriage to non Sayyed believers.
