عن عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه قال : نصب رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم عليا علما فقال : من كنت مولاه فعلي مولاه ، أللهم وال ‏من والاه ، وعاد من عاداه ، واخذل من خذله ، وانصر من نصره ، أللهم أنت شهيدي عليهم . قال عمر بن الخطاب : يا رسول الله ؟ ‏وكان في جنبي شاب حسن الوجه طيب الريح ، قال لي : يا عمر لقد عقد رسول الله عقدا لا يحله إلا منافق فأخذ رسول الله بيدي فقال : ‏يا عمر إنه ليس من ولد آدم لكنه جبرائيل أراد أن يؤكد عليكم ما قلته في علي.‏
