  • The Ibadah of Imam Zaynul Abideen (A.S.)

    The Ibadah of Imam Zaynul Abideen (A.S.) In His name, the Beneficent, the Merciful Dear Readers, Salamun 'Alaykum. Today is 25th of Muharram 1416 AH. Today the Shi'ah Muslims are commemorating the martyrdom of Imam 'Ali Zaynul 'Abideen, 'alayhis-salaam. His titles Zaynul-'Abideen (adornment of worshippers) and Sayyidus-Sajideen (chief of those who prostrate) indicate that he was a great worshipper. I would like to take this opportunity to talk about the great 'ibaadah (worship) of our fourth Imam and reflect upon possible reasons why some of us do not find the taste and pleasure in worshipping the Almighty. Why don't we enjoy performing salaat (both obligatory and recommended prayers), doing Du'as (supplicating and invoking the Almighty), and the tilawah (reading from the Holy Qur'an) the way the Holy Prophet (s) and Imams (a) used to?     Imam Ali Ibn al Husayn (as) (This is) an account of the Imam after al-Husayn Ibn Ali, peace be on them, the date of his birth, the evidence for his Imamate, the age he reached, (together with) the period of his succession, the time and cause of his death, the place of his grave, the number of his children and a selection from the reports about him. The Imam after al-Husayn Ibn Ali, peace be on them, was his son, Abu Muhammad Ali Ibn al-Husayn Zayn al-Abidin, peace be on them. He also had the kunya Abu al-Hasan. His mother was Shahzanan daughter of Yazdigard Ibn Shahriyar Ibn Choesroe. Her name was also said to be Shahrbanawayh. The Commander of the faithful, peace be on him, had appointed Hurayth Ibn Jabir al-Hanafi over part of the eastern provinces. The latter had sent to him two daughters of Yazdigard Ibn Shahryar Ibn Choesroe. Of these he had given his son al-Husayn, peace be on him, Shahzanan and she bore him Zayn al-'Abidin (Ali Ibn al-Husayn), peace be on him. He had

    In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful I can't believe I'm actually here! Even though people had described it to me and had told me what to expect, it is all completely different from what I had imagined. I have never seen so many people - so many Muslims - before in my life. I was at the Haram today and because of the overwhelming crowd, I somehow found myself in the center of a tornado of people and was almost suffocated. But it didn't matter as long as I was near the Kaaba, where nothing could possibly hurt me. I don't even feel the intense heat there. I even got the chance to touch the Kaaba! It is all so amazing! I can't be the first person to think that Hajj is the best experience of my life . . . I have spent the majority of my 17 years living in the Western world, in a society of mostly non-Muslims who are quite ignorant about my religion. This is the reason that those few weeks that I spent performing Hajj seemed like I had stepped into another world.
