Easiest (and quickest) Way to do Salat Layl (Night Prayer)
Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim. It's one of the most outstanding deeds with incredible rewards. It's described by the Holy Prophet and his Ahlul Bayt (peace be upon them) as the Light of God. The practice of the Prophets and the righteous. It brings about rizq - sustenance, illumination of the heart, brings about health of the body, forgiveness of sins, acceptance of deeds, ease and light in the grave, paradise, the displeasure of Shaytan and the opportunity to be showed off by Allah Subhanu Wa Ta'ala to His Angels.
That's right. When we perform Salat ul-Layl The Night Prayer, Allah Subhanu wa Ta'ala says to the Angels 'Look at my servant, his body is worshipping me, but his soul is with me. Bear witness, I have forgiven them.' Before you think night prayer is too much or perhaps not for you. Wait, it's much easier to do than you think and the impact on your life will be tremendously amazing, InshaAllah
Q: When can I pray it? According to some scholars like Ayatollah as-Sistani, Hafiz Allah, you can pray Salat ul-Layl straight after Isha prayers, i.e. you don't need to wait till midnight. You have until Fajr time.
Q: Is there a quicker version of it? Yes, usually Salat ul-Layl is 11 units, but you can pray nine, seven, five, three or just one unit. You can pray it while standing, sitting, driving, but make sure to focus on the road, or even lying on your bed. All you need is wudhu, and for ladies, of course, hijab. You don't need to be facing Qibla, but it's better of course, if you can.
Q: How do I recite Salat ul-Layl if I am walking or driving? Essentially, you recite everything, but instead of ruku' and sujood you just move your head as such.
Q: What is the method for the 11 rakat? First of all, the intention: I am praying Night Prayer Qurbatan ila Allah Ta'ala, then Takbirat ul-Ihram, Allahu Akbar. Then you do two rakat salah. You could read any Surah after Surat ul-Fatiha. You do this four times. That's a total of eight rakats. Then you perform a two rakat salah known as Shafa'. It is prayed as follows. After Surat ul-Fatiha in the first raka', you recite Surat un-Nas, and in the second raka' after Surat ul-Fatiha, you recite Surat ul-Falaq. Don't do qunut and then you complete the salah as normal.
The final rakah is called Witr. Recite Al-Fatiha, then three times Surah Ikhlas then Surat un-Naas and Surat ul-Falaq. Raise your hands in du'a, pray for 40 believers if you can, by name, but if not, don't worry. Then recite 70 times "Astaghfirullah wa 'atubu iIayh". Then seven times: "hadha maqam al-a'idee bika min an-Nar". Then 300 times "Al-Afw". Once you finish this, you can ask for your hajaat, supplicate to Allah, go down into ruku', then stand, then sujood and then complete the prayer. Whilst reciting the 70 times "Astaghfirullah wa 'atubu iIayh" or for example, the 300 times "Al-Afw", you can hold the tasbih or in fact use your hands.
Q: I have qadha salat to make up. Can I still pray Salat ul-Layl? Yes you can. Of course it's best to do your qadha first because that's obligatory, but perhaps you can do your qadha and then do the one raka' of Witr at the end and InshaAllah, Allah will reward you.
Q: What is recommended to do when I finish praying? It is recommended to recite the tasbih of Fatimatu az-Zahra', alayha as-salam, and recite Du'a al Hazeen from Imam Al Sajjad, alayhi as-salam. The link is found below the video.
Q: Do I have to do all the dhikr in qunoot of last raka'? No, actually, you don't have to. The more you do, the more reward you get. The closer to Fajr you pray, the more thawaab you attain.
