Importance Of Prayer
Prayers! One day, a man comes to al Imam al-Sadiq, alahyhi al-salaam, to consult him about a business trip. He tells the Imam: O Imam, my friends are going on a business trip, do you recommend that I go? Should I go or not? What do you advise me? The Imam, alahyhi al-salaam, thinks for a moment, then he tells him: If you want my advice, I tell you don't go. Better stay here. He says: OK. He thanks the Imam, he leaves.
But once he goes back home, he starts to have second thoughts. You know what? Maybe I should go. It seems like a very good business trip. They are about to reach a bunch of good deals. You know what, let me go. So he decides to go and he ends up going.
He comes back after a while. He goes and meets the Imam, alahyhi al-salaam. He tells the Imam: Remember I came a while ago and I asked you, should I go on this business trip and you told me, don't go? He said: Yes, I remember. He's like: Well, guess what? I ended up going, and guess what? I made a lot of money, many, many good business deals. So I am wondering, I am curious. Why did you tell me not to go? Why? Would I need so much money? I'm glad that I went. I made the right decision. The Imam, alahyhi al-salaam, tells him: OK. Now that you've asked, I will tell you. Remember on so-and-so night and so-and-so village, the Imam names him that village as they were traveling. Back then when you when you travel, it probably take a month or two. You passed by so many villages. The Imam told him: Remember when you along with your friends, you were in that village. You stayed up late that night. He was shocked, like: Yes, I remember. So what? What happened after that? The Imam told him: Well, because you stayed up late, what happened that morning between dawn and sunrise at Fajr? What happened? He told him: I overslept and I missed the Fajr prayer. Salaat as-subah, I missed it. The Imam alahis salaam told him. Let us focus on the words of the Imam, alahyhi al-salaam. This is a lesson for us.
The Imam, alahyhi al-salaam, told him: Look, what you missed out on, because you missed one single prayer, is far more than the money that you gained in that business trip. Yes, you made a lot of money and I knew you would make a lot of money. It was obvious, you would make a lot of money. But what you missed out on, what you lost, the spiritual, the psychological rewards of prayer, even the worldly benefits of prayer. What you lost by not praying that morning was far more than all that money that you gained. So don't consider yourself a winner in this trip. You're actually a loser. You have lost.
SubhanAllah! This man was shocked: One single prayer? The Imam said: Yes, one single prayer, because you don't know the value of that prayer. That prayer is more valuable than the entire universe. It is that link between you and your Lord, because this universe, in the end, cannot help you. When you die, can anything help you? Nothing! Except your relationship with Allah, your relationship with your Lord.
That is why Imam al Husayn alahis salaam in Dua e Arafah, he beautifully states: Ilahi maadha wajada man faqadak? Wa maadha faqada man wajadak? Oh Allah, what has he found, the one who lost You? If you've lost God, you can have the whole world to yourself. So what? What have you found? What do you really have? And what has he lost the one who's found You? If you have Allah Subhanah Wa Ta'ala that relationship with Allah Subhanah Wa Ta'ala, who cares if you lose this world?
Prières ! Un jour, un homme vient chez Imam al-Sadiq (as), pour le consulter au sujet d'un voyage d'affaires. Il en parle à l'imam: O Imam, mes amis partent en voyage d'affaires, me conseillez-vous d'y aller? Dois-je y aller ou non? Que me conseillez-vous? L'imam (as) réfléchit un instant, puis il lui dit: Si tu veux mon conseil, je te recommande de ne pas y aller.
Il vaut mieux que tu restes ici. Il lui dit: d'accord. Il remercie l'imam, et il s'en va.
Mais une fois rentré chez lui, il commence à avoir des doutes. Vous savez quoi? Peut-être que je devrais y aller. Ça semble être un très bon voyage d'affaires. Ils sont sur le point de conclure plusieurs bonnes affaires. Tu sais quoi, laisse-moi y aller. Donc il décide d'y aller et il finit par y aller.
Il revient au bout d'un certain temps. Il part et rencontre l'imam (as). Il en parle à l'imam: Vous vous souvenez que je suis venu il y a un moment et que je vous ai demandé si je devais faire ce voyage d'affaires et que vous m'aviez dit de ne pas y aller? Il lui répond: Oui, je m'en souviens. Il a dit: Eh bien, devinez quoi? J'ai fini par y aller, et devinez quoi?
J'ai fait beaucoup d'argent, beaucoup, beaucoup de bonnes affaires. Alors je me demande, je suis curieux. Pourquoi m'avez-vous dit de ne pas y aller? Pourquoi? Alors que j'avais besoin tellement d'argent. Je suis content d'y être allé. J'ai pris la bonne décision. L'imam (as) lui répondit: d'accord. Maintenant que vous avez demandé, je vais vous le dire. Souviens-toi de cette nuit et dans ce village, l'imam lui a donné le nom de ce village alors qu'ils étaient en voyage.
À l'époque, lorsque vous voyagiez, cela prenait probablement un mois ou deux. Vous passiez par tant de villages. L'imam lui a dit: Souviens-toi quand tu étais dans ce village avec tes amis. Vous avez veillé tard cette nuit-là. Il était choqué: Oui, je m'en souviens. Et alors? Qu'est-ce qui s'est passé après ça? L'imam lui a dit: Eh bien, parce que tu t'es couché tard, que s'est-il passé ce matin-là entre l'aube et le lever du soleil à Fajr?
Que s'est-il passé? Il lui a répondu: Je me suis réveillé trop tard et j'ai manqué la prière de Fajr. Salaat as-subah, je l'ai ratée. L'imam (as) lui a dit. Concentrons-nous sur les paroles de l'Imam, (as). C'est une leçon pour nous.
L'imam (as), lui a dit: Écoutez, ce que vous avez raté, parce que vous avez raté une seule prière, c'est bien plus que l'argent que vous avez gagné lors de ce voyage d'affaires. Oui, vous avez gagné beaucoup d'argent et je savais que vous en gagneriez beaucoup. C'était évident que vous alliez gagner beaucoup d'argent. Mais ce que vous avez manqué, ce que vous avez perdu, ce sont les récompenses spirituelles et psychologiques de la prière, et même les bienfaits de la prière dans le monde.
Ce que vous avez perdu en ne priant pas ce matin-là était bien plus que tout l'argent que vous avez gagné. Ne vous considérez donc pas comme un gagnant dans ce voyage. En fait, vous êtes un perdant. Vous avez perdu.
SubhanAllah ! Cet homme a été choqué: Une seule prière? l'imam dit: Oui, une seule prière, parce que vous ne connaissez pas la valeur de cette prière. Cette prière a plus de valeur que l'univers entier. C'est ce lien entre vous et votre Seigneur, parce que cet univers, en fin de compte, ne peut pas vous aider. Quand vous mourrez, est-ce que quelque chose peut vous aider? Rien ! Sauf votre relation avec Allah, votre relation avec votre Seigneur.
C'est pourquoi l'Imam al Husayn (as) dans Dua e Arafah, dit-il magnifiquement: "Ilahi maadha wajada man faqadak", "Wa maadha faqada man wajadak". Oh Allah, qu'a-t-il trouvé, celui qui t'a perdu? Si vous avez perdu Dieu, vous pouvez avoir le monde entier pour vous. Et alors? Qu'avez-vous trouvé? Qu'est-ce que vous avez vraiment? Et qu'est-ce qu'il a perdu, celui qui t'a trouvé? Si vous avez Allah (swt), cette relation avec Allah (swt), qui se soucie de savoir si vous perdez ce monde?
Preghiera! Un giorno un uomo va dall'Imam al-Sadiq, alayhi assalam, per consultarsi con lui riguardo a un viaggio di lavoro. Chiede all'Imam: "Oh Imam, i miei amici vanno in viaggio d'affari, mi consigli di andare? Devo andare o no? Cosa mi consigli?" L'imam, alayhi assalam, ci pensa un momento e poi glielo dice: "Se vuoi il mio consiglio, ti dico di non andare. E' meglio se resti qui." Egli dice: "Va bene". Ringrazia l'Imam e se ne va.
Ma una volta tornato a casa comincia ad avere dei ripensamenti: "Sai cosa? Forse dovrei andare. Sembra un ottimo viaggio di lavoro. Faranno un bel po' di buoni affari. Sai cosa? Fammi andare." Così decide di andare e finisce che ci va.
Dopo un po' torna. Va a trovare l'Imam, alayhi assalam, e dice all'imam: "Ricordi che sono venuto un po' di tempo fa e ti ho chiesto se dovevo andare a fare questo viaggio di lavoro e tu mi hai detto di non andarci?", "Sì, me lo ricordo". "Beh, indovina un po'? Alla fine ci sono andato, e sai cosa? Ho fatto un sacco di soldi, molti, molti buoni affari. Quindi mi chiedo, sono curioso... Perché mi hai detto di non andare? Perché? Avrei perso così tanti soldi! Sono contento di esserci andato. Ho preso la decisione giusta."
L'imam, alayhi assalam, gli dice: "Va bene. Visto che me l'ha chiesto, te lo dirò. Ti ricordi quella notte in quel villaggio..." L'imam gli dice il nome di uno villaggio che hanno attraversato. A quei tempi, quando si viaggiava, ci volevano probabilmente un mese o due, si attraversavano così tanti villaggi! L'imam gli dice: "Ti ricordi quando eri in quel villaggio con i tuoi amici e sei rimasto sveglio fino a tardi quella notte?" Egli rimane scioccato: "Sì, me lo ricordo. E allora? Cosa è successo?" L'Imam glie lo dice: "Beh, visto che sei rimasto sveglio fino a tardi, cos'è successo quella mattina tra l'alba e il sorgere del sole, al 'fajr'? Che cosa è successo?" Egli risponde: "Ho dormito troppo e ho perso la preghiera del 'fajr'. Salat as-sobh, l'ho mancata." L'Imam, alayhi assalam, gli dice... Concentriamoci sulle parole dell'Imam, alayhi assalam, questa è una lezione per noi.
L'imam alayhi assalam, gli dice: "Guarda, quello che hai perso, perché hai saltato una sola preghiera, è molto di più dei soldi che hai guadagnato in quel viaggio di lavoro. Sì, hai fatto un sacco di soldi e sapevo che avresti fatto un sacco di soldi. Era ovvio che avresti fatto un sacco di soldi. Ma quello che ti sei perso, quello che hai perso, le ricompense spirituali, psicologiche della preghiera, anche i benefici mondani della preghiera. Quello che hai perso non pregando quella mattina è molto di più di tutti quei soldi che hai guadagnato. Quindi non considerarti uno che ha guadagnato in questo viaggio. In realtà sei un perdente. Ci hai perso."
SubhanAllah! Quest'uomo è rimasto scioccato: "Una sola preghiera?" Disse l'Imam: "Sì, una sola preghiera" Perché non conosci il valore di quella preghiera. Quella preghiera ha più valore dell'intero universo. È quel legame tra te e il tuo Signore, perché questo universo, alla fine, non può aiutarti. Quando muori, c'è qualcosa che può aiutarti? Niente! Tranne il tuo rapporto con Allah, il tuo rapporto con il tuo Signore.
Ecco perché l'Imam al-Husayn, alayhi assalam, in Dua e Arafah ha questa bella espressione: "Ilahi maadha wajada man faqadak? Wa maadha faqada man wajadak?", "Oh Allah, che cosa ha trovato colui che Ti ha perso?" Se hai perso Dio, puoi avere il mondo intero. E allora? Che cosa hai trovato? Che cosa hai veramente? "E che cosa ha perso colui che ti ha trovato?"
Se hai Allah, Subhanah Wa Ta'ala, quel rapporto con Allah, Subhanah Wa Ta'ala, a chi importa se perdi questo mondo?
