Ramadhan, A Month of Change!
And the Holy month of Ramadan, the month of change. The change begins within us. Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala requires from the believing men and the believing women, to observe the fast, so that they not only abstain themselves from eating and drinking, while and during the day, but all of our existence must observe fast.
We fast with our eyes, by not seeing and viewing and glancing at things that we are not supposed to look at. We fast with our ears, by not hearing things that we're not meant to hear. We fast with our hands, we fast with our legs, and we fast with our entire existence. Not only by refraining ourselves from seeking the, not only by refraining ourselves from sinning, but making sure that this body becomes a servant of God and seeks the pleasure and the satisfaction of the Almighty.
However, this change does not stop here. The Prophet Jesus, peace be upon him, tells his apostles that the prophets before me called onto you not to commit adultery, and I call onto you not to think of adultery. In the month of Ramadan, not only our physical body and our physical existence observes fast, but our heart and our mind as well must observe fast. We don't think of the sin, and we don't think of going near the sin.
This one month out of the year, is meant to pave the way for us as humans to reach the highest mountains of human perfection throughout the entire year. But change does not stop here. Change is not only personal. The month of Ramadan preaches the message of change within the community and worldwide.
