Thoughts On Secular And Esoteric Perceptions Of Reality
Bismi-Llah, Al-Rahmani, Al-Rahim. As-salamu 'alaykum to anyone who is listening out there. And this is just a couple of minutes reflecting on our condition as followers of a Tariq, of a path that is leading back to a Divine Transcendent Reality. Insha'Allah, I hope to cover in future thoughts, issues of of colonialism, and secularism, and how with the coming of modernity, a certain perception of reality and a way of being has been erased, and that it is not only countries that have been occupied, but it is also minds and hearts that have been occupied.
And what we can do to become more aware of this so that, insha'Allah, we can start to reconnect with the heart, with the intuitive aspect of the intellect that lies within the heart as well, how we can connect back to ourselves. There's a book that I did my doctorate on called "Ambiguous Adventure", and I can advise everyone to get it written by a West Africa Muslim called Cheikh Hamidou Kane. He has this very interesting idea in there with the occupation of West Africa by the French and their secular philosophy that they brought with that occupation, how one becomes exiled on the surface of reality, exiled on the surface of reality.
If we are going to be passing on the teachings of Islam to the next generations, we need to first address the issue of our perception of existence. Otherwise, we are building Islam on secular foundations. Secular perception of reality. So this is something to think about.
What is the secular perception of reality? And what is the perception of reality that is accessed through traditional teachings that train the soul to connect to higher realms and by means of which we are able to perceive beyond the surface of reality? So this is my thought for the day. Salam alaykum.
