Welcoming Reverts in Our Communities
Welcoming converts to the community. This is really, really, very important. This reminded me of a beautiful tradition of our beloved Prophet, which was taught by Ali Ibn Abi Talib, that, for God Almighty to guide one person through you, is better for you than whatever sun shines on.
You know, these reverts or converts who decide to become Muslims, we should regard and consider them as blessings of Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala. We need to be grateful to Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala, that there are people who find Islam attracting and appealing and willing to join.
Now how do we welcome them within our communities? You know very well, some of our communities are not welcoming at all.
When a new person comes, nobody looks at him, nobody bothers about him. People just continue with their own business and I always mention: this is wrong, and this is unethical, and this is un-Islamic. What we need to do is to take the affairs of reverts very, very seriously, and to make its top priority within our communities. We need to have sub-committee, which is specifically created to take care of the new Muslims or the reverts, or the converts. That's how our beloved Prophet used to do in the Holy city of Madina.
When a new person would come, the Prophet will task some members of his companions and say take care of this person, his teachings, if he has a problem with his livelihood, ensure that you take care of his livelihood, until he is settled, and 100% welcomed within the community. And the Holy Prophet would announce to the public that we have a new addition. It's like when a father and a mother are blessed with a newborn baby.
A revert or a convert, within our mosques, they are newborn babies. How do we handle our newborn babies? We take care of them, even if they cry, sometimes we find it uncomfortable, but we reach out to them. This is how we should be doing. Not doing so and making these people feel not welcomed and begin to distance themselves from the mosque. We will be held responsible by God Almighty on the Day of Qiyama.
Brothers and sisters out there, let us open our mosques, and open our places to receive and welcome new Muslims or reverts or converts. And by so doing, we will be following the footsteps of our beloved Prophet and his true and sincere companions.
Accogliere i convertiti nella comunità. Questo è davvero, davvero, molto importante. Questo mi ha ricordato una bellissima tradizione del nostro amato Profeta, insegnata da Ali Ibn Abi Talib, secondo la quale, se Dio Onnipotente guida una persona attraverso di te, è meglio per te di qualsiasi cosa su cui splenda il sole.
Sapete, questi convertiti che decidono di diventare musulmani, dovremmo considerarli come una benedizione di Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala. Dobbiamo essere grati ad Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala che ci siano persone che trovano l'Islam interessante e invitante e che sono disposte ad aderire.
Come possiamo accoglierli nelle nostre comunità? Sapete bene che alcune delle nostre comunità non sono affatto accoglienti.
Quando arriva una persona nuova, nessuno la guarda, nessuno se ne preoccupa. La gente continua a farsi gli affari propri e io dico sempre: questo è sbagliato, non è etico e non è islamico. Ciò che dobbiamo fare è prendere molto seriamente la questione dei convertiti e farne una priorità assoluta all'interno delle nostre comunità. Dobbiamo avere un sottocomitato creato appositamente per occuparsi dei nuovi musulmani o dei convertiti. Così faceva il nostro amato Profeta nella città santa di Madina.
Quando arrivava una nuova persona, il Profeta incaricava alcuni dei suoi compagni e diceva loro di prendersi cura di questa persona, dei suoi insegnamenti, se aveva un problema di sostentamento, di fare in modo di occuparvi del suo sostentamento, finché non si fosse sistemato e non fosse stato accolto al 100% nella comunità. E il Santo Profeta annunciava al pubblico il nuovo arrivo. È come quando un padre e una madre vengono benedetti con un neonato.
Un convertito o una convertita, nelle nostre moschee, sono neonati. Come gestiamo i nostri neonati? Ci prendiamo cura di loro, anche se piangono, a volte ci sentiamo a disagio, ma li aiutiamo. È così che dovremmo fare. Se non lo facciamo, queste persone non si sentiranno accolte e inizieranno a prendere le distanze dalla moschea. Saremo ritenuti responsabili da Dio Onnipotente nel Giorno del Qiyama (giudizio).
Fratelli e sorelle, apriamo le nostre moschee e i nostri luoghi per ricevere e accogliere i nuovi musulmani o i convertiti. Così facendo, seguiremo le orme del nostro amato Profeta e dei suoi veri e sinceri compagni.
