When Muawiya Cursed Imam Ali (A)

One day, Muawiya ibn Abu Sufyan got up on the pulpit and he started, al-ayadhu bi-Llah, doing la'nah on Amir al-Mu'minin, salamu Allahi 'alayh. And doing whatever, the things that he used to do. Imam al-Hasan, alayhi as-salam, told him: "Ya Muawiya. I'm going to go up on the pulpit." He says, okay, come. He says: "Ayyuha adh-dhaakiru 'Aliyah". Oh, you the one who mentions Ali ibn Abu Talib. I am Hasan and you are Muawiya. Look at the difference in the name. Muawiya is the female dog. That's what it means. My name is Hasan and your name is Muawiya. My father is Ali. Your father is Sakhar. Sakhar means Rock, that's the name. Abu Sufyan's name is Sakhar.

My grandfather is Muhammad Sallu 'ala Muhammad [Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa Aali Muhammad wa ajj al-farajahum]. Your grandfather is Harb. Harb means War. Look at the name. Subhana Allah. The grandfather's name is Harb - War. The father's name is Rock - Sakhar. The son's name Muawiya - the female dog.

He says I am Hasan - Beauty. Father is 'Ali - The High. The grandfather is the Prophet, salla Allahu alayhi wa alih. Beautiful names. My mother is Fatimah. Your mother is Hind. And people know, she is famous. Hind, ate what? - Everybody knew. And when you mentioned Hind, it was not ... Hind! My mother is Fatimah, salamu Allahi alayha. Your mother is Hind.

My grandmother is Khadija. Your grandmother is Qatila. And just look at the names. Imam didn't need to say further than that. He said so, Ya Allah, he said, he then turned to the people. He said: "So raise your hands and make du'a with me."

The people then raised their hands. He said: "Ya Allah, send your la'nah on the one of us that has the worst of the ancestry. The one of us that is driven in hypocrisy. The one of us that is far away from Your Rahma, mercy." And everyone saying: "Ilahi Ameen, Ilahi Ameen, Ilahi Ameen."

And the funny thing is, the historian, who narrated the story, he's not a Shi'a, the historian, he narrates after, decades later, centuries, he writes it down. He says, and I also say "Ameen. Ameen."
