When you have no one else to turn to in times of difficulty - Thought Of The Week 58
A'udhu billahi minal shaytan al rajeem. Bismillahil rahman ar-raheem. Assalamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.
This week in the thought of the week from the Commander of the Faithful Imam Ali, may God's peace and blessings be upon him, we reflect on the name Allah. This is a name which we read again and again and again. In the Qur'an we see the name Allah mentioned thousands of times, in our daily prayers we read the name Allah, we speak this name of Allah umpteen times. In every action that a Muslim performs in his or her day to day life this name is taken, whether it be mundane activities such as cooking food, such as driving our car to work or to school. Many things that we do and probably everything that we do in our day to day life, we do so beginning in the name of Allah.
But we have to also ask ourselves, what do we know of this name? How do we understand Allah? Today in the tradition from the Commander of the Faithful, he gives us a beautiful description of the name of Allah and what it means or how we should understand it whenever we invoke this beautiful name of our Creator.
And the Commander says the following statement: Imam Ali, on the exposition of the word Allah has said, "He is One whom every creature invokes at the time of need, difficulty, when losing hope in everything else and having no means but Him."
Ultimately when we look at it, anytime, any creature, any human being, any creature really is in dire straits and difficulties, are facing challenges that they have maybe never faced in their life. Who did they call upon? The Qur'an shows us that when people are boarding a boat and sailing on the oceans and sailing on the seas and the waves become a bit tumultuous and the waves begin moving the boat up and down, people yell out, "Oh God, save me, help me." People use these expressions. When we board a plane and we are flying in the plane and a bit of turbulence hits, people begin to scream out, "oh God", even though they may not be believers in God, but that is the first thing that comes out of their mouth.
Anytime a person faces difficulty in their life, any time a challenge is there that they can not deal with, muslim or not, regardless of what religion they follow, they call out to some supreme being, some entity which is greater than anything else in existence, and that is God or Allah or whatever name that we attribute to this perfect entity, this Creator, this fashioner, sustainer of the entire universe.
So as the Commander of the Faithful says that when people are in difficulties, when people are in challenges, when they lose all hope, when they feel that they are at the end and there is nothing else to help them, when they have that sense of nothing left, there is no more support, there is nothing that they can do to get themselves out of that bind, out of that fix, that word Allah, he says, or that belief of Allah is what comes onto their mouth, and that Allah is that thing that everybody relies upon. Everybody calls upon for support, no matter what religion we follow, or even those who are irreligious, when they reach out to that force, that power in the universe to help them, to save them, unknowingly they are calling upon God, calling upon Allah, calling upon that Supreme Creator. They might not recognize him. They might not accept him as their Lord, but the Lord accepts them as His servants, as His creations. And so this is how the Commander of the Faithful describes Allah.
And as we move forward, and we use this word and this name in our vocabulary on a day to day basis, let us keep in mind this definition of what Allah truly means, what it really means in our day to day life. Wasalamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

In den Gedanken der Woche des Befehlshabers der Gläubigen Imam Ali, Gottes Frieden und Segen seien auf ihm, denken wir in dieser Woche über den Namen Allah nach. Dies ist ein Name, den wir immer und immer wieder lesen. Im Koran wird der Name Allah tausende Male erwähnt, in unseren täglichen Gebeten lesen wir den Namen Allah, wir sprechen diesen Namen Allahs zig Mal. Bei jeder Handlung, die ein Muslim in seinem täglichen Leben ausführt, wird dieser Name genannt, sei es bei alltäglichen Tätigkeiten wie dem Kochen von Essen oder beim Fahren unseres Autos zur Arbeit oder zur Schule. Viele Dinge, die wir tun, und wahrscheinlich alles, was wir in unserem täglichen Leben tun, tun wir zunächst im Namen Allahs.
Aber wir müssen uns auch fragen: Was wissen wir über diesen Namen? Wie verstehen wir Allah? In der heutigen Überlieferung des Befehlshabers der Gläubigen gibt er uns eine schöne Beschreibung des Namens Allahs und was er bedeutet oder wie wir ihn verstehen sollten, wenn wir diesen schönen Namen unseres Schöpfers anrufen.
Und der Befehlshaber sagt die folgende Aussage: Imam Ali hat über die Bedeutung des Wortes Allah gesagt: "Er ist derjenige, den jedes Geschöpf anruft, wenn es in Not ist, wenn es Schwierigkeiten hat, wenn es die Hoffnung auf alles andere verloren hat und keine anderen Mittel hat als Ihn."
Letzten Endes ist es so, dass jedes Lebewesen, jedes menschliche Wesen, jede Kreatur, die sich wirklich in Schwierigkeiten befindet, vor Herausforderungen steht, die sie vielleicht noch nie in ihrem Leben erlebt hat. Wen haben sie dann angerufen? Der Koran zeigt uns, dass die Menschen, wenn sie ein Boot besteigen und auf den Ozeanen und Meeren segeln und die Wellen ein wenig stürmisch werden und das Boot auf und ab zu bewegen beginnen, rufen: "Oh Gott, rette mich, hilf mir." Die Menschen benutzen diese Ausdrücke. Wenn wir ein Flugzeug besteigen und in Turbulenzen geraten, schreien die Menschen "Oh Gott", auch wenn sie nicht an Gott glauben, aber das ist das erste, was sie sagen.
Jedes Mal, wenn ein Mensch mit Schwierigkeiten in seinem Leben konfrontiert ist, jedes Mal, wenn er eine Herausforderung nicht bewältigen kann, egal ob er Muslim ist oder nicht, egal welcher Religion er angehört, ruft er ein höheres Wesen an, ein Wesen, das größer ist als alles andere, was es gibt, und das ist Gott oder Allah oder welcher Name auch immer diesem vollkommenen Wesen, diesem Schöpfer, diesem Erschaffer und Erhalter des gesamten Universums gegeben wird.
Wie der Befehlshaber der Gläubigen sagt, wenn Menschen in Schwierigkeiten sind, wenn Menschen in Herausforderungen stecken, wenn sie alle Hoffnung verlieren, wenn sie das Gefühl haben, dass sie am Ende sind und es nichts anderes gibt, das ihnen helfen kann, wenn sie das Gefühl haben, dass nichts mehr übrig ist, dass es keine Unterstützung mehr gibt, dass es nichts gibt, was sie tun können, um sich aus dieser Klemme, aus dieser Lage zu befreien, ist das Wort Allah, sagt er, oder der Glaube an Allah das, was ihnen in den Mund kommt, und dass Allah das ist, worauf sich jeder verlässt. Jeder bittet um Unterstützung, ganz gleich, welcher Religion wir angehören, oder sogar diejenigen, die nicht religiös sind, wenn sie sich an diese Kraft, diese Macht im Universum wenden, um ihnen zu helfen, sie zu retten, rufen sie unbewusst Gott an, rufen sie Allah an, rufen sie den Höchsten Schöpfer an. Sie erkennen ihn vielleicht nicht. Sie mögen ihn nicht als ihren Herrn akzeptieren, aber der Herr akzeptiert sie als seine Diener, als seine Geschöpfe.
Und so beschreibt der Befehlshaber der Gläubigen Allah.
Und während wir uns vorwärts bewegen und dieses Wort und diesen Namen in unserem täglichen Wortschatz verwenden, sollten wir uns diese Definition dessen, was Allah wirklich bedeutet, vor Augen halten, was es in unserem täglichen Leben wirklich bedeutet.

Il pensiero del Comandante dei credenti, l'Imam 'Ali - la pace e le benedizioni di Dio siano su di lui - di cui parliamo questa settimana ci porta a riflettere sul nome 'Allah'. E' un nome che troviamo continuamente: vediamo che nel sacro Qur'an il nome 'Allah' è menzionato migliaia di volte, nelle nostre preghiere quotidiane pronunciamo il nome 'Allah', lo ripetiamo migliaia di volte.
I musulmani dicono questo nome prima di ogni azione quotidiana, che si tratti di attività banali come cucinare il cibo, guidare l'auto, al lavoro o a scuola. Molte delle cose che facciamo... Probabilmente tutto ciò che facciamo nella nostra vita quotidiana, lo facciamo a partire dal nome 'Allah'.
Ma dobbiamo chiederci: cosa sappiamo di questo nome? Come comprendiamo il nome 'Allah'? Nella narrazione di oggi il Comandante dei credenti - la pace di Dio sia su di lui - ci dà una bella spiegazione del nome 'Allah', di cosa significa e di come dovremmo avere in mente questo significato ogni volta che invochiamo questo bel nome del nostro Creatore.
Il Comandante dei credenti - la pace di Dio sia su di lui - dice: "Egli [Allah] è Colui che ogni creatura invoca nel momento del bisogno e della difficoltà, quando perde la speranza in tutto il resto e non ha altra risorsa che Lui".
In definitiva, a ben guardare, ogni volta che un essere umano, che ogni creatura si trova veramente in difficoltà, si trova di fronte a sfide che magari non ha mai affrontato nella sua vita. Allora a chi si rivolge? Il sacro Qur'an ci mostra che se qualcuno si imbarca e naviga sugli oceani, quando le acque diventano agitate e fanno ondeggiare la barca su e giù, allora egli grida: "Oh Dio, salvami! Aiutami!". Le persone dicono così. Se siamo abbordo di un aereo e stiamo volando quando c'è un po' di turbolenza la gente comincia a gridare "Oddio!", anche se magari non sono credenti. Eppure questa è la prima cosa che esce dalla loro bocca.
Ogni volta che nel corso della propria vita qualcuno si trova ad affrontare una difficoltà, ogni volta che ha davanti una sfida che va al di là delle sue forze, musulmano o no, indipendentemente dalla religione che segue, invoca un Essere Supremo ['al-ʿAli'], un'entità che è più grande di qualsiasi altra cosa esistente ['Akbar'], e questo è Dio, o 'Allah' o qualunque sia il nome che attribuiamo a questo Essere Perfetto ['al-Wajid'], questo Creatore ['al-Khaliq'] e Sostentatore ['al-Razzaq'] dell'intero universo.
Così, come dice il Comandante dei Credenti, quando le persone sono in difficoltà, quando perdono ogni speranza, quando sentono che sono alla fine e non c'è niente che possa aiutarli, quando hanno la sensazione che non c'è più niente, che non hanno più alcun sostegno, che non c'è niente che possano fare per tirarsi fuori da quel guaio, da quella situazione... Allora dicono 'Allah', 'Allah' è ciò che viene alle loro labbra, 'Allah' è ciò su cui tutti contano. Tutti si appellano al Suo supporto, non importa quale religione seguano, anche chi non è religioso quando si rivolge a quella Forza, a quel Potere ['al-ʿAziz'] sull'universo affinché lo aiuti, lo salvi, inconsapevolmente sta invocando Dio, sta invocando Allah, sta invocando il Creatore Supremo. Può darsi che non lo riconosca, che non lo accetti come suo Signore, ma il Signore li accetta come Suoi servi, come Sue creature.
Ecco come descrive Allah il Comandante dei credenti. Così, mentre viviamo la nostra vita e usiamo questa parola, questo nome giorno dopo giorno, teniamo a mente questa definizione, ciò che 'Allah' significa veramente, ciò che significa veramente nella nostra vita quotidiana.
