Question:

"And We have set on the earth mountains standing firm, lest it 
should shake with them"     (Qur'an 21:31)

Does anyone know what is it meant by "lest it should shake with
them"? Some brother wants to know the answer(and me too).

Answer:

Allama Tabatabai in Tafsire Mizan says that the weight of the 
mountains gives the earth stability and stops it from moving from side to 
side. In between the mountains there are stable paths for men to traverse -
as you will see in the rest of the verse.
