I am a 16 year old Hindu girl. When my friends point at what they consider the flaws of Islam I start crying as I cannot bear them disrespecting Islam. I want to know more about Islam but don't want to give up on Hinduism. How can I do that?

Also, some other good ways to learn about Islam are:

* Reading the Qur'an. I recommend The Study Quran by S. H. Nasr. (You may wish to skip the commentary as the commentary is long but the Quran is not too long)

* Reading books about Islam (whatever is of interest)

* Watching videos about Islam. The Youtube channel called Ahlulbayt Tv has good quality videos.

* Sometimes it is nice to see how individuals understand their own faith. There is a nice book called Muslims of the World: Portraits and Stories which talks about different Muslims and their lives and how that relates to their faith; it also has a lot of nice pictures.

* If you end up having a strong interest in religion, you could always pursue courses in religious studies at the university (either as a major or just something to do on the side) or, if you are in a country where you have A-levels, during A-levels.

Learning about Islam, or any other religion, does not require you to give up your own religion, although it is always good to continually reflect on what is true!

Is it permissible for a Muslim government to allot land and money for the construction of a temple for minorities on the basis that they also pay taxes and have rights?

This question should come from the concerned government and the reply depends on the sect that they follow. In general, non Muslims living under Muslims rule have their freedom of worshiping provided it does not propagate among Muslims, polytheism or any anti Islam ideas.

As a revert to Islam I want to know if my Hindu mother can raise my child if and when needed?

It is not permissible for a Muslim to give his or her child to non Muslim to raise even to your own mother if she is still non Muslim. Raising the child includes many things which must be from Muslim and never allowed from non Muslim, e.g. Halal food, Faith in Allah, practicing religious obligatory acts, etc.

Allah says in Quran: It is not allowed for the Prophet and those who believe to ask Allah's forgiveness for the Mushrikeen (polytheists) even though they be of kin. (Sura Tawbah, verse113).

It is Not permissible at all. There is no marriage allowed between Muslim female and non Muslim male under any situation. If the man becomes a Muslim, then he will be allowed to marry a Muslim female like any other Muslim.

According to the Islamic belief, acts of worship should be done with the correct theological beliefs and understanding. One cannot know and truly understand how to worship God without going to the prophets, messengers and holy people that He sent to convey His message.

The Quran states:

“إِنَّ الدِّينَ عِندَ اللَّهِ الْإِسْلَامُ

Truly, the religion with Allah is Islam.”

- 3:19

It is however possible that some non-Muslims will be excused for not being able to find or ascertain the truth.

In Islam we also believe acts of goodness do not go unnoticed regardless of the person’s religion. But for acts of worship, these cannot be made up and must be done in the correct way.

May Allah guide you and all of us to that which is the truth.

According to Ayt Sistani, there is no problem in having a Hindu server/waiter in itself providing you are not sure that he or she has touched the food with wetness.

The assumption in this case would be that they are not preparing the food hence not transferring wetness to the food- unless you have knowledge otherwise.

Furthermore, providing you have complete confidence that the food is halal both in terms of meat and the absence of cross contamination of haram/impermissible ingredients - ie alcohol, haram meat, etc. there is no Islamic legal requirement to inquire about the religious identity of the chef if you do not know his/her religion.

With all that said above, it is better to eat in trusted Muslim establishments where we are confident that the all the food products are halal.
