Is it true that the Quran mentions "man" more than 800 times, whereas "women" are mentioned approximately 50 times? If so, why is there such a difference?

This claim is untrue and based on misunderstand Quranic verses.

'You may ask them for details , then you will see that they have misunderstood many Quranic verses. 
Quran generally uses the word (man) for human beings whether man or woman. This is mentioned in most matters which concern man and woman, but in special matters of women, the word woman is mentioned.

Why doesn't the Qur'an explicitly command to follow the twelve Imams (peace be upon them) by name or at least mention their number?

The number of the twelve Imams is mentioned in Quran when mentioning the divine leaders after Prophet Musa (Sura Al-Maa'idah , verse 12).

Allah (SWT) Mentioned that Prophet Muhammad is sent to people as Prophet Musa was sent. (Sura Al-Muzzammil , verse 15.

'From these two Quranic verses we know that the divine successors of the Proohet Muhammad are twelve just like the divine successors after Musa.

'Mentioning the names of the twelve Imams explicitly is not our job to ask as Allah did not mention explicitly the numbers of units of our most compulsory daily prayers and left if to the Prophet (SAWA) to explain. Allah Knows what to mention and not.

'As the Prophet Muhammad (SAWA) mentioned the number and the names of the twelve Imams, every Muslim must believe and follow the Prophet (SAWA).

Does the Quran support the belief by some people that the Earth is flat?

No, as far as I know because we have never seen any authentic evidence in Quran suggesting that the earth is flat. On the contrary, many Quranic verses are been understood by our leading scholars that the whole earth is not flat at all.

Is it permissible to read the Quran while traveling or in the office while wearing shoes and without having performed Wudu?

Yes, it is permissible to recite the holy Quran, even if you do not have wudhu or are wearing shoes, etc., as long as you do not touch its script  with your hands.
