Bismihi ta'ala

No, you do not need to take them off when you go to the bathroom, as long as you are certain they will not be contaminated with any najasah, and you keep them away from any impurity, or from you touching it without wudhu.

Otherwise, you can take them off.

Another suggestion would be to paint a layer of clear-colour nail polish.

And Allah knows best

Many Sunni books narrated authentic Hadeeths from the Prophet Muhammad (SAWA) that Ali is the deputy and the successor of the Prophet (SAWA) e.g.

WASSALAM.

1. The Prophet Muhammad (SAWA) has ordered us to do so as it clear in the Hadeeth : When you say Laa ELAAHA Illallah, Muhammad Rasoolullah, say : :Ali Ameerul Mo'mineen. (Kitab Al-Ehtijaj, page 158).

2. Hadeeth of the Prophet (SAWA): When I was elevated to the Sky, I saw writing on the Throne العرش : LAA ELAAHA ILLALLAH, MUHAMMAD RASOOLULLAH, AYYADTOHO BI ALI لا إله إلا الله محمد رسول الله، أيّدتُهُ بِعليّ

This Hadeeth was narrated not only in Shia books but also in many Sunni books e.g. Al-Manaaqib by Ibn Al-Maghazili, page 93, Al-Shaafi by Qadhi E'yaadh 138, Al-Durr Al-Manthour by Al-Soyooti  4:153, Al-Khasaa'is Al-Khubra by Al-Soyooti 1:7.

3. Hadeeth narrated by Abdullah Ibn Mas'ood from the Prophet Muhammad (SAWA): An angle came to me saying : O Muhammad, ask the previous prophets and messengers who were been sent before you; what was their message? I asked him: What was their message? He said: They were been sent on following your message and following Ali Ibn Abi Talib. Tashahhud is an obligatory part of Salah which must be performed exactly as the Prophet (SAWA) and Ahlul Bayt (AS) taught us to perform according to the authentic Prophetic Hadeeth (Perform Salah as you saw me performing Salah)  (Sallo Kama Ra'aitomooni Osalli)صَلّوا كما رأيتموني أُصَلّي.

Imam Jafar Al-Sadiq (AS) taught his followers all details of Salah including Tashahhud. ( Amaali Al-Shaikh Al-Sadouq , page 498 narrating from Hammaad Bin Easa).

Tashahhud must have ALLAHUMMA SALLI 'ALA MUHAMMAD WA AALI MUHAMMAD which mentions Imam Ali (AS) and all the Infallible Ahlul Bayt (AS).

We are not allowed to add on Tashahhud more than what Ahlul Bayt (AS) taught us.

We can mention the name of Imam AALI (AS) in the form of Du'a within our Salah after Tashahhud, like saying : ALLAHUMMA SALLI 'ALA AMEERIL MO'MINEEN. Du'a is always good within our Salah and not only in Qunoot.

By this Du'a, we will be mentioning the holy name of Ameerul Mo'mineen (AS) and not adding on the Tashahhud which was been taught to us by Ahlul Bayt (AS).

Wassalam.
