We can't guess the real reason of every act of the Infallible Imam, as they know things which are more than our minds' capacity. Some Ulama in certain matters understand a statement of the Imam is a way which is near to the surrounding circumstances but we can't be sure about the real reason which best known by the Imam (AS)..

Using Ibn Fatima can be to remind certain people that Imam Hussain  (AS) is the real grand sin of the Prophet Muhammad (SAWA).

Wassalam.

Based on historical sources, there is about a 6-month gap between when Yazid took power, and when Imam Husayn (A) left Mecca. There was also some time gap between when Mu'awiyah died and the news reached Medina (I don't know how long it took for messages to travel then).

Here is a timeline based on what is related:

Rajab 680 - Mu'awiyah dies
28 Rajab 680 - Imam Husayn (A) leaves Medina
3 Sha'ban 680 - Imam Husayn (A) enters Mecca
Dhu al-Hijjah - Imam Husayn (A) leaves Mecca for Iraq

The best way to be near to Imam Husain (AS) and Imam Al-Mahdi (AS) is to be always pious and sincere servant of Allah (SWT) by fulfilling all the obligatory acts on its time without delay and avoiding every sinful act. We don't say that all who who can afford to travel to Ziyarah of Imam Hussain (AS) have achieved and reached to this status, as financial reasons are there, but gaining the nearness from Ahlul Bayt (AS) requires piousness and continuous obedience of Allah (SWT) even if your financial situation does not allow you to travel to Karbala, but your piousness will make you near to the Imam (AS) where ever you are and your Ziyarah from far will have the reward of Ziyarah.

Bismihi ta'ala

We believe that the names, titles and kunyahs (teknonym) of our Ma'sumeen (a.s.) and certain eminent members of their family are chosen by Allah ta'ala. It was also a custom among Arabs at that time to give a kunyah to a person who didnt have a child with that name.

Imam Muhammad al-Jawad (a.s.) has kunyah of Abu Ja'far, and he did not have a child by the name of Abu Ja'far.

Imam al-Mahdi (a.a.f.) has the kunyah Aba Saleh, and he does not have children.

Imam al-Sadiq (a.s.) has kunyah of Abu Abdillah, but his elder son was Isma'il. Although he did have a son by the name Abdullah (al-Aftah), but it would not be possible for the Imam to have that kunyah for that reason, because Abdullah al-Aftah was deviant.

As for Imam Husain (a.s.), his kunyah was also Abu Abdillah, and it is not clear exactly why, but it has been explicitly mentioned from the Messenger of God (s.a.w.). One narration says that the Prophet (s.a.w.) used this kunyah with Imam Husain (a.s.) when he was at the age of two.

Therefore, his kunyah has been transmitted as such, from the Prophet (s.a.w.), and of course what the Prophet does is from Allah ta'ala.

And Allah knows best
