Affan narrated to us, that Abu 'Awana related to them from al-Mughira, who was reporting from Abu 'Ubayd, who reported Maymun Abi Abdillah saying:
"I was listening as Zayd bin Arqam was relating: ‘We stopped with the Messenger of Allah - peace and salutation of Allah be upon him - at a valley known as The 'Valley of Khum'. He then ordered for prayers, and performed them under the midday heat. Zayd bin Arqam continued: ‘He then delivered a sermon, while Samurah prepared a shadow for the Messenger of Allah - peace and salutation of Allah be upon him - from
the sun, by placing a cloth over a tree. He thus announced:
“Aren't you aware?! [and] don't you give witness that I have indeed a greater claim [mastery] on every believer than he has on his own self?! The audience responded: ‘Certainly Yes!’. He then declared: “Of whosoever I am the master, then indeed Ali is his master. O' Allah! hate the one who hates him, and befriend the one who befriends him.”
