Yahya bin Adam narrated to me, that Hanash bin al-Harith bin Laqit an-Nakha'i al-Ashja'i related to them from Riyah bin al-Harith, that the latter said:

“A group of people came to see Ali at 'Ruhba' [an area in Kufa] and said: 'Peace be upon you O' our master!.

Ali commented: 'How can I be your master when you are my fellow Arab tribesmen!'

They replied: 'We have heard the Messenger of Allah -peace and salutation of Allah be upon him- saying on the day of Ghadir Khum: "Of whomsoever I am the master then this Ali is his master."

Riyah says: 'When the group left, I followed them and inquired [from the people around] who they are. They said: 'Some people from the 'Ansar', amongst them is Abu Ayyub al-Ansari.'
