Surah Yaseen (Yasin) Section 5 – The Kingdom Of The Universe Is God’s

  • Man when he reaches old age is returned to humility

  • Qur’an is no poetry but a Reminder

  • The bounties of God in providing the cattle for man’s use

Surah Yaseen (Yasin) Verses 68 – 83

وَمَن نُّعَمِّرْهُ نُنَكِّسْهُ فِى ٱلْخَلْقِ أَفَلَا يَعْقِلُونَ

And whomsoever We lengthen in age, We reverse him to an abject state in life, What! Do they understand not? (36:68)1

وَمَا عَلَّمْنَـٰهُ ٱلشِّعْرَ وَمَا يَنۢبَغِى لَهُۥٓ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ وَقُرْءَانٌ مُّبِينٌ

We have taught him2not poetry, nor would it beseem him; It is naught but a Remin der and manifesting Qur’an, (36:69)

لِّيُنذِرَ مَن كَانَ حَيًّا وَيَحِقَّ ٱلْقَوْلُ عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

To warn him who is alive,3and (that) the word be proved against the disbelievers. (36:70)4

أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ أَنَّا خَلَقْنَا لَهُم مِّمَّا عَمِلَتْ أَيْدِينَآ أَنْعَـٰمًا فَهُمْ لَهَا مَـٰلِكُونَ

What! See they not that We created the cattle for them, of what Our hands5have wrought, and of them they6are the masters? (36:71)

وَذَلَّلْنَـٰهَا لَهُمْ فَمِنْهَا رَكُوبُهُمْ وَمِنْهَا يَأْكُلُونَ

And them (the cattle) We did subject unto them7and some of them they ride upon, and some of them they eat. (36:72)

وَلَهُمْ فِيهَا مَنَـٰفِعُ وَمَشَارِبُ أَفَلَا يَشْكُرُونَ

And for them8in them9are benefits and drinks: What! will they not then be grateful? (36:73)

وَٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ءَالِهَةً لَّعَلَّهُمْ يُنصَرُونَ

And (yet) they have taken gods besides (the only True) God so that they may be helped. (36:74)

لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ نَصْرَهُمْ وَهُمْ لَهُمْ جُندٌ مُّحْضَرُونَ

They shall not be able to help them: and yet they (the disbelievers) are their host (who on the Day of Resurrection) shall be brought forth to account. (36:75)10

فَلَا يَحْزُنكَ قَوْلُهُمْ ۘ إِنَّا نَعْلَمُ مَا يُسِرُّونَ وَمَا يُعْلِنُونَ

So let not their speech grieve thee (O’ Our Apostle Muhammad!), (for) verily know We what they do hiding, and what they do openly. (36:76)11

أَوَلَمْ يَرَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰهُ مِن نُّطْفَةٍ فَإِذَا هُوَ خَصِيمٌ مُّبِينٌ

What! Seest not man that We created him from (a drop of) sperm? (and) yet lo! he is an open disputant!12(36:77)13

وَضَرَبَ لَنَا مَثَلًا وَنَسِىَ خَلْقَهُۥ قَالَ مَن يُحْىِ ٱلْعِظَـٰمَ وَهِىَ رَمِيمٌ

He setteth unto Us an argument, and hath forgotten his (own) creation (origin), Sayeth he: “Who will enliven the bones when they are rotten?” (36:78)14

قُلْ يُحْيِيهَا ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنشَأَهَآ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ خَلْقٍ عَلِيمٌ

Say thou (O’ Our Apostle Muhammad!): “He will enliven them Who created them for the first time, and He is, fully cognizant of (all) the creation,” (36:79)

ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلشَّجَرِ ٱلْأَخْضَرِ نَارًا فَإِذَآ أَنتُم مِّنْهُ تُوقِدُونَ

“He who made for you the fire from the green tree, and lo! from it ye kindle (fire). (36:80)15

أَوَلَيْسَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ بِقَـٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يَخْلُقَ مِثْلَهُم بَلَىٰ وَهُوَ ٱلْخَلَّـٰقُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ

“What! Is not He Who created the heavens and the earth able to create (again) the like of them? Yea! and He is the Creator (Omnipotent), the All-Knowing. (36:81)16

إِنَّمَآ أَمْرُهُۥٓ إِذَآ أَرَادَ شَيْـًٔا أَن يَقُولَ لَهُۥ كُن فَيَكُونُ

His command, when intendeth He anything, is only that He sayeth unto it ‘Be’ then (and there) it is.” (36:82)17

فَسُبْحَـٰنَ ٱلَّذِى بِيَدِهِۦ مَلَكُوتُ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ

Therefore, Hallowed is He in Whose hand is the kingdom of all things, and unto Him ye shall all be returned. (36:83)

Commentary

Verse 69

‘Poetry’ here means proposition based on imaginary data exciting human emotion. (A.P.).

Verse 80

Refers to the assumption of being of opposite form, in their evolutionary movements towards the ultimate shape. (A.P.).

Verse 81

The stress on ‘Alim’ shows that no unconscious being can have any creative power.18 (A.P.).

Verse 82

The process of creation is given in the term of His Will and attention. Thus, every being is God’s Word. (A.P.).
