Question:

I would appreciate it if you could answer this question.....

I have been having an argument with my cousins about cursing the 3 caliphs
(la'anat) - they say it is Wajib to 
do La'anat on the 3 caliphs ... I say it is not Wajib.. and I think it is
preferred not to curse them... 
please clarify the situation with as much detail as you can.

Answer:

One of the Furue Deen is "Tabarri" which is Wajib. It means to disassociate
oneself or remain aloof from, amongst others, the enemies of Ahlul Bayt (A).
It is our belief that the rights of Imam Ali (A) were violated by the first
three Caliphs (as he himself has testified in Nahjul Balagha). It is
therefore necessary that we disassociate ourselves from them, but it is not
Wajib to curse or abuse them.
