Surah Yaseen (Yasin) Verses 51 – 67

And is blown the Trumpet, when lo! From the grave unto their Lord they (all) hasten. (36:51)1

They shall say: “Oh! woe unto us! who hath raised us up from our place of repose?” (it will be replied): “This2is what the Beneficent (God) did promise and the apostles spake the truth.” (36:52)

There will be but a single cry, when lo! they shall all be brought3unto Us. (36:53)4

So this day no soul shall be dealt with unjustly in the least, nor shall ye be recompensed but that which ye were doing. (36:54)

Verily, the inmates of the Garden shall on that day be busy enjoying. (36:55)5

They and their mates, shall be in (Pleasant) shades, on raised couches reclining; (36:56)6

For them therein shall be fruits, and for them shall be whatever they call for.7(36:57)

(They shall receive the greeting): “Peace” a word (of salutation) from the Lord the Most Merciful. (36:58)8

(And a voice would say): “And get ye aside this day O’ ye the guilty ones!” (36:59)

“Enjoined9I not on you O’ children of Adam! that ye should worship10not Satan? for he is your open enemy,” (36:60)11

“And ye should worship (only) Me, (and) this is the (only) Right way?” (36:61)

“And yet hath he led astray a great multitude of you; Did ye not then understand? (36:62)

“This is the hell which ye were promised, (36:63)12

“Enter ye into it, for what ye were disbelieving.” (36:64)13

On that day will We set a seal upon their mouths, and shall speak unto Us their hands and shall bear witness their feet, of what they were earning. (36:65)14

And if We will, We would certainly put15out their eyes, then they would struggle (groping) to get first to the way, but how could they see? (36:66)

And if We will, We would certainly transform them in their (own) places, then they would not be able to go on, nor will they return. (36:67)

Commentary

Verse 51

About the blowing of the Trumpet, see verses 78:18, 39:68, 50:20, 27:87, 23:101

‘Ajdath’, i.e., the place or state where the former shapes and forms of the living beings with which they were buried or lost whether it is in grave or burnt into ashes or eaten away by animals or thrown into the sea. The verse expressively points out that after rising from their burials in new forms, their movements in chain will be towards their Lord.16 (A.P.).

Verse 52

‘Ruqud’ means sleeping - ‘Marqad’ sleeping place, figuratively refers to any state or stage wherein man is not aware of what is awaiting for him in future. It is true of this life in comparison to the life hereafter and it is also true of the life after death in the intermediary stage before the Total Resurrection. The Holy Prophet has said: ‘People are asleep, when they will die they will awake.’ (A.P.).

Verse 54

The reward or punishment will be the consequence of one’s own actions, or in other words, the actions themselves assuming pleasant or unpleasant forms which will make the doer enjoy or suffer. (A.P.).

Verse 67

Indicates for those who lose their human form, there will be no progress or retrogressing. (A.P.).
