I pray regularly, but I sometimes get distracted during my prayers. Does this affect the validity of my prayer? What factors influence whether a prayer is considered valid or invalid?

The Prayer is still valid as far your intention to continue praying for the sake of Allah is not terminated or stopped or changed. Distraction during the prayer is from Shaitan who always tries to disturb us and spoil our relationship with Allah. It does not invalidate the prayer but you need to focus again on the prayer and avoid the Satanic thoughts (whispering).

Interest. Investment

Is it permissible to invest in companies that earn interest from non-Muslims, given that some hold cash in non-Muslim banks or interest-bearing investments? If their main business is Halal, is purification of earnings from these investments required?

Investing in any company which has lawful activities and lawful income is allowed. Getting some interest from non Muslim banks is allowed according to many leading scholars as far as it was not under demand of RIBA (Usury).

Woman. Father. Mujtahid. Marriage

Are there any Mujtahids who allow an independent virgin woman to marry without her father's permission?

Virgin girl does require in her marriage the permission of her father or her paternal grand father. If father and the paternal grand father refuse proposal of marriage with out valid Islamic reason when the proposal is from a Kof’ (Compatible believer) and the girl needs to marry to save herself from sin, then the condition of the father’s permission or paternal grand father’s permission will not remain. That is when the refusal of the father or his father is not based on a valid Islamic rules.

Parents. Husband. Domestic violence

I involved my parents due to my husband's verbal abuse, where he belittles me, calls me lazy, mocks me, and insists he comes before them. Is it right for him to demand this priority despite his abusive behavior?

It is better to keep your issues with your husband between you and him with out involving others as much as possible. If you both are completely unable to sort your things together then a person from your family with a person from his family can be involved to sort things out. Don't try to make your parents take a negative opinion about your husband by hearing your side of the story before hearing his side. Involving your parents should repair and strengthen the relation between you and your husband and never to create enmity or bad feeling between them and your husband. You and your husband should talk peacefully to understand the reasons of your misunderstands and to try to avoid it as much as possible.

There are no obligations or responsibilities he has towards you, and no obligations or responsibilities you have to him. No rights as well, other than him giving you the mahr you agreed upon.

You can end it, only by him freeing you for the remaining period, so one must make sure they do not make the mistake of making the time-period too long, and do this only for the sake of it becoming a permanent marriage.

If a Sayyeda girl commits Zina with a non-Syed boy and repents, can they marry later? Are Sayyeds considered superior in Islam or do they have different Sharia laws?

Yes, she can marry. Why should she not be able to marry. She did haram, and repented. None of this has anything to do with her being a Seyyidah, and we all know that Islam does not give superiority to any race or group of people or person. The only person that is better than others is he/she with better piety.

My wife asked for my opinion on courts that don't follow Sharia law. I don't believe in man-made courts, but we live in a country without Sharia. She called me a Kafir and accused me of Shirk before leaving. What should I do in this situation?

Whatever your view may be about man-made laws and courts, it has nothing to do with shirk and kufr. It seems the issue your wife has with you is not about courts. What you should is try to mend the relationship, if you can, and avoid having these kind of arguments.

What are some of the things I should discuss with a Sunni girl whom I wish to marry and settle down with?

You should make sure that your future with her as a wife and mother of your children is peaceful and harmonious with out differences. She must know the main facts of Shia Islam based on the following if the Ahlul Bayt (AS) being the real successors of the Prophet (SAWA). Give her few books to read e.g Then I was guided by Dr Tijani, The Right Path by Sharafuddin, and websites like aqaed.com.

She need to understand the Shia faith from Shia sources and not from the opponents.

Don't risk your future and your kids future in a marriage before being sure that it is based on full understanding and accepting the facts of Ahlul Bayt (AS).

God's Emissaries by Shaykh Rizwan Arastu contains a section on him. The book is based on Qur'an and traditional narrations, and is readable.

Of course, there are many takes on this story, and you will find ample discussion elsewhere as well.

Reading books of tafsir is also a good option.

According to Ayatullah Sistani’s ruling, is it permissible for a man and woman to pray together without the required distance if one is performing obligatorily prayer and the other is performing a recommended prayer?

Man and woman should not pray together on the same line. She is not allowed to pray ahead of him even if she was a Mahram for him.

She should be during prayers behind him that her place of Sojood (prostration) should not be ahead of the place of his knees during his Sojood.

Feeding of birds or any animal is recommended in Islam and it is a source of great reward. Pigeons are mentioned in many narrations from the Prophet (SAWA) and Ahlul Bayt (AS) that it is useful to have pigeons at home and its wings swish drives away Shaitan.

Is investing in the weapon industry by buying shares of a company allowed? And is it allowed to invest in companies that have some, but not major, involvement with the military and defense sector?

It is not allowed to invest in any company which is involved in military or weapons supporting oppressors or any wrong act. If the company has any involvement in supporting wrong doers, it is becomes forbidden to invest in such company.
