According to what our esteemed jurists say, it could be makruh to initiate a salam to a non-mahram woman, unless there is a valid purpose for it. And if the salam is done with lust, or falling into fitnah, then that of course must be avoided.
As for replying of a salam, if it does not entail lust, then she must reply, if it was specifically directed at her.

Husband and wife have responsibilities toward each other as well as rights. Husband is responsible to provide all livelihood expenses for his wife and protect her and look after her emotional needs and treat her as he wants her to treat him as read in Quran (And for them (wives) is like what is required by them with fairness and men have a degree on them)(2:228).
Wife has responsibility towards her husband to fulfill his needs as a husband as far as she can and to obey him in lawful things which concern his life and to be with him and not leave him when he needs her.
Both husband and wife are responsible to treat each other with respect and humor as the aim of marriage is peace of mind and heart. Sura Al-Room, verse 21.

There is no 'iddah for the wife to observe while "filing" for divorce. She must observe 'iddah only after the Islamic divorce is recited. When the talaq is recited, her 'iddah period will be three menstrual cycles.
The Prophet Muhammad (S) had married Lady Khadija who was older than him. There is no scholarly view, in my knowledge, that forbids such a marriage on this basis.

This is going to be a choice the husband makes. Of course, you must understand how difficult it would be for him to trust you again, or to forget the incident, and it might continue to be brought up, especially if you have an argument.
He might even accuse the children of not being his, and so on.
Therefore, if he forgives you, which is possible from a shar'i perspective, you must both navigate correct solutions to deal with the infidelity and how to avoid it in future, from both sides.

Allah (SWT) Says in Quran: He (Allah) Renders barren whom He Wants).(Sura Al-Shura, Verse 50). It is the Decision and Wisdom of Allah who should be barren and sterile. No blame at all on the person who was created by Allah as barren or sterile. Marriage which aims having children needs a fertile wife, and that is the reason of the narrations. No doubt that Allah (SWT) Makes some of His creatures as sterile for reason in their favor even if they don't know it but it is definitely in their favor. It can be avoiding them a harm which can happen if they had children or any other serious reason.
