His father was the late Ayatollah Sayyid Muhammad Muhaqqiq Damad who was the son-in-law of `Allama Ha’iri Yazdi (the founder of the Howzah ilmiyyah of Qom). Religious Education When he finished his preliminary studies he entered the Howzah in Qom. Damad learned the intellectual disciplines and Islamic philosophy mostly from the learned Murtada Mutahhari, and Fiqh and Usool (principles) from eminent scholars such as Ayatollah Uzma Amuli, Laarijani, and Ayatollah Uzma Murtada Ha’ iri Yazdi.
