I have heard that the flood of Hazrat Nuh (as) matches with flood incidents mentioned in history of the Sumerian civilization and in Hindu scripture. And they also talk about a creation story akin to Adam (as). How should we understand such similarities?

Frequently, religious stories, legends, myths, folktales, etc, preserve an older historical memory, even if some of the details change over time, or even if they are written down later. So the most obvious explanation is that, at some time in history, a big flood happened, and also that people share a common understanding of our origin.

When religious stories are shared cross-culturally, it can also be understood to mean that there was a shared idea of the story that predated those civilizations, the story is somehow archetypal to the human being (like a fear of snakes), or there was shared access to higher spiritual truths. However in the case of the flood, the historical explanation seems most likely - a big flood probably happened and was integrated into communal memory in various ways.

Bani Israel were not been favoured because of they were from the grand children of those who were with Noah, because in fact all human beings after Noah were from those who were with Noah. Bani Israel were the grand children of Prophet Ya'qoub who was also known as Israel which means in their language : Servant of Allah (Abdullah). The grand children of Yaqoub lived in Egypt then went to other places. Many prophets and kings were from that progeny. Prophets from Bani Israel include Yousuf, Ayyub, Dhul Kifayah, Younus, Dawood, Sulaiman, Musa, Haroon, Zakaria, Yahya, Easa (AS) and many others. Bani Israel (The grand children of Ya'qoub) had pious believers in Allah like the prophets and their sincere followers, and had majority of disobedient community who opposed their own prophets and tortured and even killed some of them.(Sura 2, Verse 87) and (Sura 4, Verse 183).

Allah (SWT) cursed from Bani Israel those who were disobedient (Sura 5, Verse 78).

Majority of Bani Israel did not appreciate the great bounties of Allah on them and went against His orders, that is why we read in Quran many verses in which Allah mentioning the bounties bestowed on Bani Israel and how they never thanked Allah but on the contrary, insisted on disobeying Him and opposing His prophets. They wanted a religion which suits their evil desires and not the religion of Allah.

Ahl al-Bayt . Prophet Noah

Besides the ark of Prophet Nooh (as), what are the other Prophetic things to which the Ahlulbayt (as) have been compared?

The status of Ali (AS) from the Prophet Muhammad is like the status of Haroun from Prophet Musa (AS). This has been mentioned in an authentic Hadeeth known as Hadeeth al-Manzilah where the Prophet told Ali: O Ali, you are from me like Haroun was from Musa but there will be no Prophet after me. This Hadeeth was narrated in most eminent Sunni books of Hadeeth e.g,

This Hadeeth along with many Quranic verses about Haroun and Musa, have the clear answer of the issue of succession of the Prophet Muhammad (SAWA).

Haroun was the successor of Musa by order of Musa when Musa left his community (Sura Al-A'raaf: 142).

A prominent Sunni scholar from al-Azhar in Egypt , Shaikh Mahmoud Abu Riyyah said: If Muslims follow the Prophet Muhammad in this Hadeeth (al-Manzilah), and read and follow Quran, there will be no dispute that Ali is the real successor after the Prophet (SAWA).

Grave . Prophet Noah . Imam Ali b. Abi Talib

Is it true that Prophet Nuh (AS) prepared a grave for Imam Ali (AS) 700 years before his martyrdom?

It is narrated that, before he passed away, Imam 'Ali (A) said that when they dug his grave, they would find a white rock shining with light and a shield, and that he should be buried by the shield. When the grave for Imam Ali (A) was dug, they found a white rock shining with light and a shield and on which was engraved: "This is one of the things which Nuh stored for 'Ali ibn Abi Talib."

This is related in Kitab al-Irshad (you can find the English edition online) and Bihar al-Anwar (vol. 42, p. 217).

Obviously, none of us were alive during the time of Nuh (A) to see with our own eyes whether or not this is true. However, it is possible that it happened, and there is no reason why it could not have happened.

However, it would have happened much more than 700 years before the time of Imam 'Ali (A) because Nuh lived a long time ago, although it is not certain exactly when he lived. Islamic narrations place him as being about 9 generations after Adam (A), although it should be kept in mind that people were said to have lived longer then.
