Imam Ali (AS) did not use his sword against those attacked Lady Fatima (SA) because he was been ordered by the Prophet (SAWA) not to fight, as figh will ignite a civil war among the newly formed Muslim society which can lead to a collapse.
‘Imam Ali (AS) helped Muslims all the time even when his right was taken away by Saqeefa people, but he never gave allegiance to them nor did he pray with them as great Suni scholar (Al-Dhahabi admitted stating that Ali never prayed with Abu Bakr, Umar and Uthman any Friday prayer nor any congregational prayer. (Siyar A'laam Annobalaa') by Al-Dhahabi.
Imam Ali (AS) was been ordered by the Prophet Muhammad (SAWA) not to fight those who will take his right because fighting can spark a civil war in the newly formed Muslim society. He obeyed the order of the Prophet and did not fight the attackers.
No question of inferiority of women in Islam at all. Fatima (AS) was the lady who was granted the highest rank above all human beings including all the pious men and she is the third greatest human being after her father the Prophet Muhammad (SAWA) and her husband Ameerul Mo'mineen (AS).
The attack on the door of Fatima (s.a.) and setting fire to burn her door and her house has been mentioned in many authentic and prominent Sunni books as well as Shia books. From the Sunni books where you find this attack has been mentioned is:
