Yes, he is legitimate unless and until he gets a concrete evidence proving otherwise.

There are thousands of books on Imam Ali (AS) in many languages and I doubt that you have time to read all of them, but you can read Nahjul Balagha (having some of his sayings and sermons and letters) which is available in many languages including English and try to follow the teachings of Imam Ali (AS). That will change your life to a real successful life.

More information can be found in books like Biharul Anwaar, Volume 31and Kitab al-Irshad by al-Mufeed and Imam Ali from Mahd Ila Al-Lahd by late Sayed Kadhim al-Qazwini and many other books.

I have remained refrained from intercourse with my wife for 7 months, as she had given birth to my child and after the pregnancy she was not ready for it. Can I go for intercourse with her or do I have to renew my Nikah?

No question of renewing your Nikah. Your Nikah remains valid no matter how long you don't have intercourse with your wife, even if you are separated for years.

'Nothing in Islam suggests that you should refrain from sexual intercourse with your wife during her pregnancy. Even after child birth, you are allowed sexual intercourse immediately after the post natal bleeding which is ten days or less. Unless your wife is not well.

If a husband and wife are both students and do not want to have any children right in the moment, because they don’t have enough time to take care of the child, can the wife take birth control measures?

It is permissible to have birth control measures as far as the effect of it is temporary. Birth control measures becomes not allowed when it's effect is permanent. Birth control should not kill a zygote which has been already formed. Preventing the formation of the zygote is allowed, but if the zygote has been formed by the unity of the male sperm with the female egg, then it will be not permissible to kill it or abort it.

Bismihi ta'ala

When a mother gives birth, she will have some post-natal bleeding. In our fiqh this is called Nifas. The rulings of Nifas is similar to the rulings of Haydh, or menstrual cycle, in which a woman does not pray, or fast, and also sexual relation is prohibited. Once her 'iddah period finishes, she prays and performs everything else that she was exempted from doing during that period, including sexual relation with spouse.

The 'iddah period for Nifas has a minimum and a maximum. The minimum is as much as she sees Nifas blood, and the maximum is 10 days.

So, it would depend on how long she has her post-natal bleeding.

On a side note, the new mother is of course overburdened with not only just giving birth, but also healing and resting, and taking care of the newborn. Therefore, it is very important for a husband to observe these issues and be considerate and try to help as much as possible.
