On p. 111, Vol. 7, of Bihār al-Anwār, it states:
‘In the Hereafter, there will be fifty stations: Each station lasts a thousand years. The first station is getting out of the grave. People will be confined in it for a thousand years barefoot, hungry and thirsty. Whoever comes out of his grave believing in Allah‎, in Paradise and Hell, in the Accounting and the Judgment, admitting Allah‎ as the Lord, believing in His Prophet and in what Allah‎ Almighty had revealed to him, will be saved from hunger and thirst.’

This hunger and thirst in the Day of Judgment is part of punishment of the sinners. The righteous believers will be saved from such punishment and will be happy and pleased.

We have in the Hadeeths that the enemies of Ahlul Bayt (AS) will be severely thirsty(ظماء ) in the Day of Judgment, while the righteous believers will be quenched (رواء).

Does it say in the Quran that the righteous will have their minor sins forgiven? Some say that people will first be punished for their sins and then they will go to heaven on Judgement Day. What is the correct view of this matter?

There are many Qur'anic verses that state that the righteous will be
granted forgiveness on the day of judgment.

In Surah Ibrahim verse 41 ( O my Lord ! Forgive me and my parents and
the believers on the day of judgment).

Also in Surah al-Ma'idah verse 9: Allah (SWT), has promised those who believed and did good, that for them there is forgiveness and a great reward.

Also in Surah Aal-e-Imran verse 136 : For them reward is forgiveness from their Lord
and gardens with rivers flowing underneath.

Many other verses also state the righteous believers will be granted
forgiveness on the day of judgment.

Major sins are not like minors sins and a person who committed sins and repented is not like a person who insisted on committing sins until death. There are people who get
forgiveness for all their sins because of their sincere intentions and very
good deeds. But there are people who will get punished on the day of
judgment and after their punishment, they will be sent to Paradise.

It all depends upon the degree of sincerity and good deeds.

What are the signs of the Day of Judgement?

The Hadeeth says: When a person dies, his Qiyamah starts.

إذا مات آبن آدم قامت

We read in Sura Al- Waqi’a how every one who dies , faces immediately the consequences of his faith and deeds. This is the start of Qiyamah which is very close to us and it can come to us any minute by death.

Signs of the final Day of Judgement are mentioned in many Hadeeths but it will not come before the establishment of the world state of justice under the leadership of Imam Al-Mahdi ( AS) as Allah (SWT) has promised in Quran ( ولقد كتبنا في الزبور من بعد الذكر أن الأرض يرثها عبادي الصالحون) ( We have ordained in Zabur after the Thikr ( Book) that the whole earth will be inherited by our Pious Servants) Sura Al-Anbiyaa’, Verse 105.
